Areas of practice: Mr. Barbar is a Principal with the Family Law Department concentrating in the fields of probate and domestic relations. His probate practice specialization includes estate administrations, allowance of wills, guardianships, and conservatorships, including probate litigation such as will contests and objections to appointments of administrators and guardians. Mr. Barbar’s domestic relations practice specializes in all phases of family law including divorce (traditional and non-traditional), paternity, adoption, and equity cases.

Work for clients: Mr. Barbar’s cases have included issues of custody, property division, alimony and child support. He has been appointed by the Probate and Family Court in every capacity, as an Administrator, Special Administrator, Trustee, Discovery Master, Guardian ad Litem (Best Interests of Children, Next Friend, Parenting Coordinator, Visitation Coordinator, Probate Accounts, License to Sell). Mr. Barbar has also appeared and tried cases in the United States District Court in several international jurisdiction/Hague Convention cases.

Professional activities: Mr. Barbar is a member of the Boston Bar Association (Family Law Committee and Trust & Estates Committee) and is the 2009-2010 co-chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Family Law Section Council (and was for 2008-2009) and has been appointed to the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Budget and Finance Committee. Mr. Barbar has testified at the State House on behalf of the MBA regarding Family Law Bills. Mr. Barbar has been a panel participant and chair for probate and family law issues for the BBA and MBA.

Personal/Community activities: Mr. Barbar enjoys tennis, skiing, scuba-diving and surfing.

Education: Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Barbar was a sole practitioner from 1997 to 2004 consisting of Probate and Family Law, Residential Real Estate and Civil Litigation. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Villanova University and a J.D. from the New England School of Law.
